Federal Aid

 

  1. Federal Pell Grant is a need based federal grant that is based on the FAFSA. To be eligible the student FAFSA SAI (Student Aid Index) must be lower than the eligibility amount set by FAFSA. The amount also changes based on credit hours taken. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants: These grants are available to students with high financial need. Eligibility is determined using results from the FAFSA. (Funds are limited)

  2. Federal Work-Study Program: All work positions at Franciscan are referred to as SWOP or Student Work Opportunity Program.  Currently the only position that is required to be eligible for FWS is our America Reads position, which is a wonderful opportunity to read to local children in the area. To apply students must complete the FAFSA and have financial need and be awarded a FWS Fund. See the SWOP office or Financial Aid for more information.

  3. FSEOG Grant. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant. Franciscan University receives very limited funds in the SEOG grant. Funds are used generally for upperclassmen needing some extra funds to finish. As stated, the funds are very limited. Students much complete a FAFSA and be eligible for a Federal Pell grant to be eligible.

  4. Teach Grant -- The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides grant funds to students enrolled in an eligible program of study at a participating school. TEACH Grant recipients must teach full time for at least four years in a high-need field at a low-income school or educational service agency.

  5. Federal Direct Loan program. These are for Undergraduates or Graduates. You must complete the FAFSA and meet eligibility requirements. See our loans page for more information.

  6. Graduate PLUS loan: This is a separate federal loan for graduates usually when the federal loan program aggregate limit has been met or more is needed in a term and budget allows. There is a credit check.

  7. Parent PLUS loan: This is a federal loan for the student in the parents’ name. These are very popular with families. A parent takes the loan out in the student’s name and this loan can not be transferred to the student. There is a credit Check.
