Baron Health and Wellness Center
Located in the lowermost level of the Finnegan Fieldhouse, the Baron Health and Wellness Center is available for enrolled students. To serve student health and wellness needs, we have two branches at the Baron Health and Wellness Center: the Baron Counseling Center focuses on mental and emotional health, and the Trinity Health Clinic offers health education, prevention of illnesses, and primary medical care.

In accordance with the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville, Counseling Services provides clinical counseling services grounded in Catholic doctrine and understanding of the human person. Our confidential services are provided by licensed counselors and social workers, as well as by graduate student interns in our Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program under supervision. Our counselors and social workers have all graduated from an accredited institution with a master’s degree in counseling or social work, and all are licensed by the state of Ohio to provide professional psychotherapy (i.e., “counseling”) services. Services are offered on a short-term basis, approximately 7 sessions.
Fees: Counseling sessions are covered under the Student Health Fee.
Trinity Health Clinic at the Baron Health & Wellness Center – 740.270.3194
Franciscan University of Steubenville has partnered with Trinity Health System to operate the an on-campus Health Clinic. The clinic fosters a campus-wide environment in which each student’s vocation to pursue faith and reason is aligned with a healthy mind and body—a holistic wellness approach that supports student success.
The Health Clinic is staffed 40 hours per week by a nurse practitioner and certified medical assistants, with a physician on campus at least once a week. It provides a wide range of outpatient services including diagnosis and treatment for acute and chronic health issues, health screenings and immunizations, as well as referrals to specialists for more complex health care needs. Appointments are recommended however students may utilize the clinic anytime the clinic is open as a “walk in” without an appointment. There is a physician on staff who oversees the clinic. Nurse practitioners are routinely available to see patients.
Fees: Payment for required copays by insurance are due at the time of service. Trinity offers self-pay and uninsured discounts. If utilizing insurance provided by the student’s parents, the insurance company will send an explanation of benefits to the policy holder. If a student chooses to self-pay for services, the confidentiality of the student will be maintained.
Counseling Service

Counseling is a specialized field in the helping professions that seeks to understand and improve human behavior. Our staff includes trained counselors and social workers, licensed in Ohio, who use their special skills to help students lead more effective and satisfying lives.
Our staff strives to blend the best in mental health care with Christian principles as we work with individuals and groups of students. By listening to and assessing student problems, counseling goals are established for each student. In addition, individual counseling, group counseling sessions are offered on campus. Our staff maintains relationships with local providers of psychiatric services, enabling us to refer students to these services as needed.
Counseling fees are $10 for an individual session, payable at the time of the appointment by cash, check, or credit/debit card. Students are not refused counseling services based on inability to pay.
Health Service

The Health Service staff provides assessment and treatment of common illnesses, first-aid, suture removal, administration of some injectable medications (including allergy serums), dressing applications, weight and nutrition counseling, health teaching, and referrals to various community and on-campus services. The Health Service is not a full-service emergency room or clinic; however, it is staffed by registered nurses and a nurse practitioner Monday through Friday on regular class days. The required Student Health Form is kept on file at the Wellness Center.
All students living in a residence hall must notify Student Life of their vaccination for meningococcal and hepatitis B disease per Ohio law. Students cannot be admitted to the residence hall without indicating this on the Confidential Student Health Record.
When ordered by a physician, diagnostic lab and x-ray testing is done at Trinity Medical Center or Weirton Medical Center. Emergency health and medical problems are also referred to these hospitals. Dental referrals may also be scheduled as needed.
There is a $10 fee for all appointments, payable at the time of the appointment by cash, check, or credit/debit card. Tests for mononucleosis and strep are available for a nominal cost also. Specialized vaccines can be ordered, but the prices vary. Call the Wellness Center for pricing information. Prescription medications, which can be delivered to the Wellness Center from local pharmacies, must be purchased by the student.
