Finnegan Fieldhouse is a multi-purpose facility designed to provide University students and staff with a variety of athletic and health-related activities. The facilities available for use in the Fieldhouse include: two full-size basketball courts, four volleyball courts, two racquetball courts, a fitness center, an aerobics room, a stretch and flexibility room, and 4 locker rooms. Certified personal trainers are available in the weight room for students, staff, and faculty. The trainers are present during most operating hours on weekdays to assist with workouts.
Franciscan University offers Christ-centered intercollegiate NCAA Division III varsity programs that focus on the intellectual, physical, and spiritual growth of the student-athletes. Franciscan offers 9 men and 11 women’s sports.
A brand-new Trinity Health System Field (turf field and locker rooms along with new public restrooms) is home to the soccer and lacrosse teams. Also on the Trinity Health System Field is a brand-new official NCAA 8-lane track with field event areas along with Rugby pitch and softball field.
Swimming and Diving utilize the Big Red Natatorium in downtown Steubenville. The tennis team uses Belleview Park Courts and the golf team uses the Steubenville Country Club.
Varsity sports take place fall, winter, and spring. Fall sports include Cross Country, Volleyball, Tennis, and Soccer. Winter Sports include Basketball, Swim & Dive, and Indoor Track. Spring Sports include Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Tennis, Golf, Track & Field, and Rugby.
Franciscan University is a member of the NCAA Division III Athletics and a member of the Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC). Rugby plays in the Allegheny Rugby Union.
J. C. Williams Center

The J. C. Williams Center is the “family room of the campus,” providing an environment that fosters Encounter, Conversion, and Community as well as several services for our University community.
The JCWC is the Home of the Center for Student Engagement which strives to develop a thriving campus culture centered upon ENCOUNTER with Christ and cultivated through COMMUNITY. The student Engagement Team strives to unite the spiritual and the material for our students through events and creative initiatives, leading them to deeper CONVERSION.
The Information Desk, Switchboard, is the heart of the Center for Student Engagement and Franciscan hospitality. It nourishes a campus culture of ENCOUNTER, CONVERSION, and COMMUNITY. Lost and Found, game rentals, events and activity information, student assessments, and assistance with creative initiatives are a few of the services provided. Stop by with questions, concerns, or ideas for campus community. Our Student Engagement Team would love to assist you and hear your feedback! Join us for “Power Hour” Fridays at 11am for a free treat or activity at the Switchboard Desk.
Rooms may be reserved through Kathleen Dougherty located on the top floor of the JCWC in the Student Life office. The remotes for the TVs as well as rentals (ping pong paddles, board games, cards, Nintendo Switch, lawn games, and more) are available for use by presenting a picture ID. Campus maps and local tourist attraction brochures can be found here as well.
The J. C. Williams Center is also home to the University Bookstore, Campus Mail Center, Student Life offices, Office of Evangelization, Missionary Outreach Office, and several student organization offices: Franciscan University Student Government, Exc!te (Office of Student Activities), The Troubadour (the student newspaper), San Damiano (the yearbook), and Missions of Peace.

St. John Paul II Library

The St. John Paul II Library offers a collection of books, videos, journals, newspapers, and an online catalog. The library provides access to over 200 online and full-text research databases. The library’s collections, along with public-access computers, a wireless network, archival resources, and private study areas, are available throughout the two floors of the library. The library is open over 90 hours a week. The Center for Success is located on the first floor of the library.
Reference materials and periodicals are available for use in the library; circulating books may be checked out for three weeks and audio-visuals for one week. You may renew materials online by accessing the library’s website. A link for your library account can be found on the library website. The library website also includes current hours and library policies. All of this can be accessed through the Port. Library barcode numbers are embedded on the back of student identification cards and can also be found on the Port.
Additional material is provided through the library’s membership and participation in statewide academic library consortia, OhioLINK (Ohio Library and Information Network), and OPAL (Ohio Private Academic Libraries). OhioLINK membership includes the State Library of Ohio, public university libraries, independent college libraries, two-year college libraries, regional campus libraries, law school libraries and medical school libraries located throughout Ohio. In addition, the Library provides interlibrary loan services, nationally and internationally, for materials unable to be borrowed through OhioLINK or other sources. Drop-in or by-appointment research and reference assistance is available in-person, online, and via email or phone.
Library instruction and information literacy classes are available to introduce students to print and database sources and to teach and enhance searching skills. One-on-one instruction is also available by contacting the library.
University Campus Store

The Campus Store serves the Franciscan University community in the spirit of St. Francis. The retail operation is an extension of the University experience and mission offering enhanced insignia apparel and gift offerings. Regular hours are 9:00 to 4:30, Monday through Friday; 10:00-3:00, Saturday. The Campus Store remains open year-round, serving the conference guests and students throughout the summer. Franciscan University has partnered with a third-party vendor, Slingshot, to provide a student-first course material auto-fulfillment program. In addition to the convenient Choice Program, Slingshot offers ala cart purchases of course materials in all formats.
