Advising Office

Egan Hall, Room 104
Upon enrollment at Franciscan University, each student is assigned an academic advisor. Students who have chosen a major are advised by a faculty member from the major department. Exploratory students who have not yet chosen a major are advised by an academic advisor or faculty member assigned by the Advising Office.
Choosing a major involves an ongoing process of discerning our unique set of gifts, talents, interests and abilities. Faculty and academic advisors are great resources to help students discern whether the major is a good fit.
Students may visit the Advising Office for assistance with core requirements, program requirements, majors or minors, understanding transfer credit, degree completion issues, study abroad opportunities, guidance on academic policies, and issues impacting academic success. Students with multiple midterm deficiencies may be contacted to discuss strategies for success or to consider withdrawal options. In addition, change of major/minor requests are processed by the Advising Office. This and other forms pertinent to academics are available in Egan 104 or on The Port.
The Port contains valuable advising resources including students’ assigned advisor, a list of courses completed, and an advising worksheet listing degree requirements. Students will be able to monitor the completion of their degree requirements via the advising worksheet. This worksheet will show courses completed, courses needed and adjustments to their major and minor programs. Academic advisors have access to this information as well. Students should meet regularly with their advisors to be sure they fully understand their program of study. Contact the Advising Office for any questions about or corrections needed on the advising worksheet. Full degree requirements are available on the program listings in the University catalog. Degree completion requires the total credit requirement (124 credits for bachelor degrees), the overall GPA requirement (2.0 for undergraduates, 3.0 for graduate students), the major GPA requirement (undergraduate), and all major or program course and other requirements.
