Mission and Purpose
The Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Doctor of Ministry in Evangelization and Catechetics is a professional doctoral program that integrates advanced theological and catechetical studies with coherent pastoral praxis, empowering our students to more effectively participate in the Church’s mission of evangelization and God’s call to St. Francis, “Go, rebuild my church.” Graduates with this advanced degree are credentialed to compete for higher level professional leadership positions in the Church at the national, diocesan, and parish level, as well as numerous other ministry opportunities serving Catholic publishers, media creators, and ministry apostolates.
The process culminates in the completion of a doctoral thesis project (analogous to the dissertation for the PhD) whereby students will create a substantial written work detailing an evangelistic outreach that serves the Church's evangelistic mission in a concrete pastoral situation. Thus, the Doctor of Ministry at Franciscan University creates opportunities where students can combine years of field experience with in-depth study to develop and test solutions to real problems in the Church.
