Deferred Payment Plan
Franciscan University offers a monthly payment plan option. Information is available from the Enrollment Services Office or online at the University’s website.
Veterans Benefits
Students who wish to utilize Veterans Education Benefits (G.I. Bill or other applicable program) must present their Certificate of Eligibility to the Financial Aid Office prior to enrolling in their first semester at the University. Franciscan University does participate in the Yellow Ribbon program. Please contact the Financial Office for additional information.
Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits
Students who believe they may be eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation benefits (Chapter 31/VR&E) should submit an application via their eBenefits account in order to be scheduled for a meeting with a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor through the VA.
Veterans Benefits and Transition Act Statement
For students receiving Veterans Benefits, including but not limited to recipients of Chapter 31 or Chapter 33 benefits, Franciscan University of Steubenville will not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities, nor require a recipient to borrow additional funds to cover the recipient's inability to meet his or her financial obligations to the institution when that inability to meet financial obligations is due to the delayed disbursement of a payment by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Satisfactory Academic Progress
Federal regulations require the University to have a policy to measure if students who receive federal financial aid are making satisfactory academic progress towards a degree. Satisfactory academic progress is measured by evaluating quantitative progress, qualitative progress, and progress toward degree completion.
This policy indicates the standards that are used to measure satisfactory academic progress at Franciscan University for purposes of federal financial aid eligibility. The criteria contained in this policy apply to all undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled full time, as well as those who are enrolled less than full time.
Students are evaluated and notified after each semester if they are not meeting the requirements of this policy.
Criteria for Satisfactory Academic Progress
A student must successfully complete at least 67 percent of all hours attempted. Attempted hours are defined as any course that the student is enrolled in after the University’s add/drop period expires. Successfully completed hours are defined as the number of hours in which a student received a grade of A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, P, or CE.
Withdrawals will be counted as hours attempted if they occur after the add/drop period has ended. F grades are included as hours attempted, but not completed. Initial and repeated courses count as hours attempted each time the course is taken.
Incomplete courses are counted as attempted, but not completed.
The cumulative 67 percent completion rate is measured at the end of the spring semester in each academic year. The completion rate applies to all terms regardless of whether the student received aid during the term
If a student is below a cumulative 67 percent completion rate, the student is ineligible for federal financial aid. However, the student may appeal and may be eligible for a probation period. If the student has not achieved a cumulative 67 percent completion rate at the end of the probation period, the student will be ineligible to receive federal aid until the student achieves a completion rate of 67 percent. Assistance is reinstated by appeal in the term after the student reaches the 67 percent completion level.
