Austrian Program

The Austria Study Abroad Program is an undergraduate academic program of Franciscan University. Students must have at least sophomore status (27 earned credits) to be eligible to attend. Students are required to take and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours while studying in Austria.

In order to participate in the Study Abroad Program, you must do the following: apply online, pay your Austria deposit, attend the pre-departure meetings, and submit your passport and plane ticket to the Austria Study Abroad Office. There are four required Austria pre-departure meetings that take place the semester prior to studying abroad. These meetings will provide pre-departure and orientation information that will enhance the Austrian experience.

Studying in our Austrian Program is considered a privilege. Students’ disciplinary and academic records are reviewed in the pre-departure process and can affect one’s ability to participate in the program. Students who are academically dismissed from the University the semester prior to participating in the program will forfeit their opportunity and are responsible for any lost costs.

All undergraduate students participating in the Austrian Program are required to maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours . In general, online classes do not count as part of the minimum requirement of 12 credit hours with the exception of transfer students who have completed at least 60 credit hours. These students may take one online class worth at least 3 credit hours in place of one seated class. Without the agreement of the faculty chair, this online class cannot be a class taught in Gaming that semester. If a student withdraws from any classes (seated or online) and falls below the minimum 12 credit hours, an academic review will automatically be initiated and this could result in the student being dismissed from the program.

All students are permitted to take online classes in accordance with the general University guidelines in addition to the 12 credit hours required to be part of the Gaming program. Graduate students are required to maintain 9 credit hours with a minimum of two seated classes in Gaming.
