ENG 337 English Renaissance & Restoration Literature
This course explores the flourishing of an English vernacular literature during the Renaissance, from the courtly poetry and public theater of the Tudor period, to the new literary styles of the Restoration, Eighteenth-Century Neoclassicism, and the emergence of literary criticism and the novel. Authors may include Thomas More, Edmund Spenser, Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare, John Donne, George Herbert, John Milton, John Dryden, Daniel Defoe, Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope, and Samuel Johnson, and Samuel Richardson.
Prerequisite
Minimum 30 credit hours earned or permission of course instructor.
