Study Abroad

The opportunity to study abroad enriches the academic experience as students encounter history, language, and culture in a new context. Research has shown that students who participated in a study abroad program experienced increased self-confidence, an expanded global perspective, a commitment to academic pursuits, and the acquisition of skill sets pertinent to career development.

Franciscan students wishing to participate in a study abroad experience, beyond the Austrian program, must be highly motivated to explore options and make necessary preparations. In addition to traditional semester or year-long experiences, students are encouraged to consider Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) programs and short-term study away opportunities, which also provide meaningful global engagement.

Students should plan to research and select a program from an accredited institution early (one year to six months in advance) and begin the application process. Students are required to meet with both their academic advisor and Dr. Boury, Senior International Officer, to discuss their study abroad plans. Dr. Boury can be reached at tboury@franciscan.edu.

Students must complete the Petition to Study Abroad form available on the PORT and submit the completed form with all signatures. Once approved, the student may enroll abroad.
