Mission and Purpose

The PhD in Sacred Theology represents an achievement in orthodox and ecclesial theological scholarship and research. The program is designed to prepare graduate students to make significant contributions to knowledge in a major area of sacred theology while broadening their understanding of other areas of theology and to prepare them to teach undergraduate and graduate students, as well as seminarians. By means of research seminars, advanced level courses, language skills, comprehensive examinations, and a dissertation, the program is designed to develop graduates who are capable of orthodox and thorough theological understanding and careful research.

The Doctor of Philosophy degree program in sacred theology is designed to prepare students for careers as scholars and teachers, and for faithful service to the Church. To this end, it combines faithful, rigorous study and research with training in languages and the possibility of mentored teaching practice in order to provide a complete program of professional preparation.
