International Students
A candidate for admission from a foreign country must complete a two step application process and submit the following:
- An application for admission.
- A $150 non-refundable application fee. This fee must be in the form of a check that is payable in the United States.
- Academic Records. An original or certified copy of all educational credentials. (Certified copies must include all original official seals. Photocopies of official seals cannot be accepted.) Applicants are required to submit an official credential evaluation for a fee as part of their application, i.e. AACRAO or WE, World Education Service. This fee would be paid by the applicant directly to AACRAO or WES. Franciscan University will accept a Course-by-Course Evaluation/Report. A Course-by-Course evaluation identifies and describes each diploma or certificate, indicates the periods of education, provides an equivalency for each document, lists all courses (subjects) with U.S. semester credits, and gives a grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. All credentials must be submitted in English or accompanied by a certified translation.
- After conditional academic admittance is granted, applicants will need to complete the immigration portion of the process.
- Academic history ladder.
- International Student Information Sheet.
- Verification of English proficiency through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for those whose first language is not English.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- A Certification of Finances demonstrating ability to finance your education in the United States along with an Affidavit of Financial Support.
All students whose first language is not English will be retested with an English language proficiency test upon arrival at the University. Students scoring the equivalent of the TOEFL 550 (paper) for both undergraduate and graduate students and who demonstrate sufficient writing and comprehension skills will be admitted to the regular curriculum for their class level. Students scoring below the minimum level will be placed in a program administered on our campus that is designed for those who need additional writing and/ or comprehension skills.
Canadian students note: Ontario Academic Credits (OAC) are NOT accepted for credit.
